Monarch Racing End-Of-Season Update

USA Cycling Club Innovation Grant

Monarch Racing was officially recognized by USA Cycling for our work in growing the sport of cycling and changing lives of our riders, receiving the 2024 Club Innovation Grant this fall.

We believe that not only do we have an obligation to be a force for good, we believe that we are living up to that obligation and have no plans of slowing down. However, we do not, and cannot, do it alone - support from all of our sponsors, organizations such as the Berkeley Bicycle Club and KaiVelo Foundation, and you have allowed us to reach more people and have a huge impact.

This ask from our community continues into 2025 - at the moment, Monarch Racing has not met our financial budget requirements for 2025, and we are still urgently seeking additional financial sponsors. With the addition of our U19 Development team, and continued support of our Elite team, we ask that you believe in our mission and our community and become a sponsor partner of our team today.

Interested individuals & companies can contact us at info@monarch-racing.com — we are part of a 501c3, and donations and sponsorship can be tax-deductible.

Race Updates

With the 2024 season quickly wrapping up, the team didn’t slow down at all - racking up a number of impressive late-season results!

  • Claudia Ferreira is the 2024 California State Time Trial Champion

  • Amy Gammelgard won the Audacity nighttime gravel race in Oklahoma

  • Thialor Mize won the Chuck Pontius Memorial Criterium in California

  • Jamie Chapman won the Oakland Grand Prix Criterium in California

  • Heidi Franz (guest-riding) placed 2nd on two stages of the Ras na mBan stage race in Ireland

The team was able to attend the six-stage international Ras na mBan stage race, based in Kilkenny, Ireland, thanks to tremendous support from sponsors as well as on-the-ground support from team director Nate English, assistant director from Ireland, Darragh O’Connor, supportive boyfriend Darren, and parents Pamela and Paul.

The team had a very successful trip - Heidi (guest-riding) placed 2nd on two stages, finishing 8th in the GC, while Sofia and Chloe both spent time in breaks and off the front. Claudia was dealt a rough hand with a concussion from a crash-filled day late in the race week, but until that point was showing off her newfound fitness after moving back to NorCal after finishing her residency program in Michigan! Helena returned to road racing after a successful mountain biking hiatus, and reported that it was much easier to race at sea level compared to the 10,000ft high races she’s been doing.

Monarch Racing Development 2025

The junior team has a finalized roster for 2025 - totaling 15 junior girls & non-binary riders in Northern California - hailing from Marin, Oakland, Berkeley, El Cerrito, and Sunol. We are extremely excited for these riders and what this next year will bring - team events start in October to begin getting these riders ready to race!
